Jeremy Hill Runs Over Broncos Defense (Video)

Jeremy Hill has been phenomenal as a rookie this year, and he didn’t stop on Monday night. The rookie out of LSU carried the ball 22 times for 147 yards and a touchdown. His one touchdown was the highlight of the night, in which he took the rock 85 yards for a touchdown, swerving in out and around the Broncos defense. Hill has clearly taken over the starting running back job in Cincinnati, and rightfully so. Hill is first among rookies in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, and is ninth in the league in rushing. Hill has more rushing yards than the likes of Matt Forte, Jamaal Charles and Frank Gore. You can watch Hill’s game breaking 85 yard touchdown run below.

Marshawn Lynch Goes “Beast Mode” Once Again (Video)

Over the course of Lynch’s career, he’s been given the nickname “Beast Mode”, namely for his insane run against the New Orleans Saints in a 2011 playoff game. Lynch is one of the best running backs in the league, and he proved it once again Sunday night against the Arizona Cardinals. With the Seahawks up 21-6, Russell Wilson handed the ball off the Marshawn Lynch, and Beast Mode 2.0 was born. You can watch Marshawn Lynch obliterate the Cardinals defense below.

Giants Brawl With Rams (Video)

The New York Giants got into a scuffle with the St Louis Rams Sunday following a late hit by Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree on Giants rookie sensation Odell Beckham. The late hit resulted in the two getting into it, followed by a free for all amongst the two teams. The fight did not phase Beckham though, who ended the day with eight catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns. The fight resulted in Giants defensive end Damontre Moore and receiver Preston Parker along with Rams defensive end Williams Hayes being ejected. You can see the fight at the link below.

Rookie Wide Receiver Class: Best Ever?

This year’s rookie receiving class has been one for the ages. Not only does this class have star power, but it has depth. There has been debate over whether or not this class can rival and/or surpass the receiver class of 1996, a class that included Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, Keyshawn Johnson and Muhsin Muhammad among others. If this class continues to be as successful as it has been thus far, I think it’ll surpass the class of 1996.
One indicator of how great this class could be is how productive the receivers are already. There are eight rookie wideouts with 48 catches or more this season. Additionally, seven of the top 32 receivers in average points a game in fantasy football are rookies, thats almost a fourth. One thing that makes those numbers even more impressive is that some of these guys are putting up these numbers with average quarterbacking, such as Mike Glennon, Kyle Orton, Cam Newton, Blake Bortles and Eli Manning.
Aside from the star power of the first round picks, the depth of the class is another thing that makes it great. The leading receiver as far as receptions go is Jarvis Landry, a guy picked late in the second round. Also, two of the top ten rookies in yards receiving are undrafted free agents. As these guys continue to develop, there is potentially 15 wideouts that could be thousand yards receivers in their career; three of them (Odell Beckham, Mike Evans and Kelvin Benjamin), are already on pace to finish with over a thousand yards in their rookie season.
The diversity of the receivers in this class is also special. There’s the sure handed, tough, third down reliable guys like Jarvis Landry; big, tall red zone possession receivers like Kelvin Benjamin and Mike Evans; super speedy home run threats like John Brown and Brandin Cooks; and super athletic, do it all guys who excel in all aspects of their game like Sammy Watkins and Odell Beckham.
The 1996 class may end up being the only class that can rival the 2014 one. Each class is extremely deep and talented. It’s hard to tell how successful these guys will be ten years from now, but to be able to tell how they shape up next to each other up to this point, ESPN used the NEP rating (Net Expected Points) to compare the two. The result? The 1996 class had an NEP of +66.8, this current class is projected to also finish with a score of +66.8.

LSU: Pro Day

Scouts from all across the nation flocked to LSU Wednesday to check out the latest prospects LSU has to offer. A month after the combine, players had the chance to touch up their skills and improve testing scores to further impress the scouts. Some LSU players, such as Jarvis Landry, didn’t do well at the combine and needed pro day to save their draft stock.
The main areas of concentration coming into the day were whether or not Jarvis Landry’s combine performance was a fluke and how would Zach Mettenberger look coming off an ACL tear. Jarvis Landry probably had the most lucrative day of the two, saving his draft stock and maybe even increasing his value. At the combine Landry ran a 4.77, had a 28.5″ vertical and a 110″ broad jump. He improved all of those scores. On pro day Landry’s best 40 time was a 4.51, he had a 30.5″ vertical, and increased his broad jump to 113″. Working out at Traction Center For Sports Excellence may have made Jarvis Landry a lot of money. Zach Mettenberger did not run or jump at pro day, but he did throw. Mettenberger, in an effort to show off his knee, threw on a lot of rollouts. He completed most of his passes and showed the scouts that his knee is not going to be a problem going forward. Another player that improved his draft stock is Jeremy Hill, who dropped his forty time a tenth of a second to a 4.52 and increased his vertical 2 inches to 31″. He is a guy with loads of ability, but might get passed up by teams because of his criminal record. Two players to watch out for come draft day are James Wright and Kadron Boone. Neither were thought much about going into draft day, but after a 4.44 forty and 38″ vertical from James Wright and a 4.44 forty, 33″ vertical performance from Kadron Boone, both could be late round draft picks in the draft.
On the defense there were a lot less performers. Tahj Jones, after not going to the NFL combine, ran an impressive 4.54 and had a 30.5″ vertical. He might be able to sneak into the 7th round. If he isn’t drafted, he will most likely be a undrafted free agent. The only other player that may have improved his draft stock is Ego Ferguson. Ferguson did not work out at the NFL combine. After dropping 13 pounds since weighing in at the combine, Ferguson ran an impressive 5.08 forty and had a 29.5″ vertical. At 302 pounds, Fergusons scores definitely impressed.
LSU will once again have a load of players drafted on draft weekend. The Tigers are an NFL factory, and it doesn’t look like it’ll stop anytime soon.
